Desenchufar in Spanish means to unplug. Uruguayans are the king of chill and have a knack for dialing down your revolutions. One of the most laid-back countries, Uruguay also has some of the best beaches in South America.
It’s a coastal country where idyllic countryside crashes into the south Atlantic and roaming gauchos and surfers are a way of life. It’s high time for an escape to the dune-lined beaches of Uruguay, so let’s take you there now. Imagine endless dune-studded beaches where chic restaurants attract a beautiful crowd robbed in white linen yet fishermen in dinghies are pulling in the fresh robalo a block away. Imagine tiny villages frozen in time and in the petit capital of Montevideo a retro-nostalgic vibe and tango linger in the air.
Taking in those rolling green hills, for a moment you think you are in Tuscany. How we love the Italian and Spanish heritage which makes Uruguayans so hospitable–and makes for amazing local wine culture, complete with ethereal cheese, salumi, and a devotion to the art of grilling. Ready to go? So are we.
Uruguay is perfect if you:
- Want to say adios to winter, hello to South American summer, and decompress with clerico therapy, a local sangria.
- Have an artisan cheese obsession and want to experience the world’s best dulce de leche
- Are a fan of Bordeaux-style, Old World-ish wines with quirky varietals like Tannat or Albarino
- Crave fresh seafood and the best grass-fed steak you will ever sink your teeth into
- Fantasize about staying at a real estancia with a jaw-dropping modern art collection
When to Go:
From first quarter 2022 on. The best months to go are November to March with the peak being December into January. Holidays 2022 in Punta del Este/Jose Ignacio are always crazy, however, PLAN NOW if you want to be there between December 20, 2022 – January 3, 2023.
Uruguay, after Chile, is the second most developed country in South America with the largest middle class and second-highest vaccination rate in the region (almost 60%) of the adult population.
