Hi Guys, this is an exciting day to share with you! This is the first of twelve food and wine pairing videos I did in conjunction with Emiliana Orgánico winery, one of the leaders in sustainable and organic wines in Chile. Last May during two days, I let a professional film crew invade our (new!) kitchen to bring to life some non-conventional takes on classic Chilean and North American recipes to pair with their lush wines.
To kick this off, we’re going to start with one of my most simple, fast, yummy appetizers that will be done in less than 4-5 minutes cooking time. That’s right, it’s time for shrimp pil pil, a wonderful Basque recipe (Chile is full of Basque immigrants) where fruity olive oil is heated and tossed with some floral garlic and smoky merkén. Add juicy, sweet shrimp and let me tell you, it’s pure lovin’. Emiliana’s Natura Sauvignon Blanc really stands up to this powerful dish and underscores its simplicity. Crushing acidity, citrus notes, and enough punchiness that it doesn’t wimp out next to this flavor combo. And the price? Crushes it at US$9.99 per bottle.
For bonus points, we start this week with enough garlic to keep everyone in good health for the remainder of Spring, although your man/girl may not appreciate a big kiss after slurping on the leftovers. Please let us know what you think of these wine pairing videos and this new blog post format (err, video!). We are not “killing” the text, just bringing in some new dynamics for fun. In the words of British new wave group the Buggles…”Video Killed the Radio Star“. Yep, video is here to stay on Eat Wine. “Ohhh, oh, oh, oh…”
