I had a great, but cold winter stay in Colonia. It was so cold that day in 2008, that there were hardly any other tourists around. My family and I escaped the cold by popping into a restaurant, with a fireplace! Our meal was homemade wholesome while the owner and host chatted with us. I also noticed the nice and quaint boutique hotels around the "casco historico." Posada San Gabriel was the most ancient looking one. It only had 2 or 3 rooms with views of the Rio de la Plata. It seemed like a romantic honeymoon getaway. Colonia has great hospitality and is really charming. I sure hope to return there someday for maybe a getaway or a honeymoon.
