Hi Liz!
I just found your blog and I love it! Here's another recent piece in the NY Times about Santiago: http://travel.nytimes.com/2011/02/06/travel/06hours-santiago.html?ref=travel
I guess the secret's out about how much it has to offer both travelers and those of us lucky enough to live here!

Oh yes, this is a great place to retire. Good real estate to be found, blessed culture of domestic help, world class health care, temperate climate, quick trip to the US w/ no jet lag, generally lower cost of living (depends on your lifestyle in all fairness) and SAFE. So when are you coming? :)

I have never in 10 years seen real tomatillos in La Vega. However, there's a Mexican guy from Michoacan who grows them. He also makes amazing, classic-style Mexican tortillas, food, etc. I think it's in our Eat Wine Santiago. If not, will be in the new 2.0 version coming out this week. I bought zucchini flowers here a couple times in La Vega but normally no.

Great post! I am a recent transplant to Santiago and I love to follow your blog. Quick question off the topic your blog, but still on the topic of food -- Have you ever seen tomatillos in Chile? I might have been hallucinating, but I think I saw them at La Vega way back in August when I arrived, but I haven't seen them since. Also ever seen people selling zucchini flowers? Thanks!

Fair enough. Thanks for the suggestions. I will add those to Providencia. I was thinking in terms of comunas but I am in Bustamente and Italia all the time. I didn't go into the other places like Bio Bio & Parque los Reyes since I was thinking more of the foreign visitor...you get my drift. You're coming in March?
